Re:Nookea

Privacy

What Re:Nookea stores, what leaves your device, and how to stop it. Last updated 5 September 2026.

The short version

Re:Nookea has no accounts and no logins. Everything you track β€” your island, favourites, gifts, museum donations β€” is saved in your own browser and stays there unless you deliberately turn on Cloud Sync. There are no ads. Nothing is sold. The site does use Google Analytics and Cloudflare's analytics to count visits, and you can opt out of both below.

Who runs this

Re:Nookea is a free hobby project run by one person, not a company. It is a fan-made tribute and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Nintendo. Questions or requests about anything on this page can be sent through the Suggestions? box in the sidebar.

What stays on your device

Your tracked data is written to your browser's localStorage on the device you are using. It is not uploaded anywhere by default, and it is not visible to anyone but you. That covers:

  • favourite villagers, and the ten villagers on your island
  • which gifts you have given to which villager, and on what date
  • your critter, art, and fossil museum progress
  • catalog items you have marked as owned
  • turnip prices you have entered
  • your dark-mode preference and whether you have seen the latest changelog

Clearing your browser's site data for this domain erases all of it permanently. There is no copy for anyone to recover unless you enabled Cloud Sync.

Cloud Sync β€” only if you turn it on

Cloud Sync is off unless you switch it on. When you do, the data listed above is uploaded to Cloudflare KV storage and stored under a randomly generated eight-character sync code. There is no account, no email, and nothing that identifies you personally β€” the backup is just game progress.

Your sync code is the only thing protecting that backup. Anyone who has it can read and overwrite it, so treat it like a password and only share it with your own devices. A backup that is not updated for a year is deleted automatically.

You can delete a backup at any time by overwriting it with empty data from the Cloud Sync panel, or simply by not touching it for a year.

The suggestion box

The Suggestions? form sends your message to Web3Forms, which forwards it to the site owner by email. The email field is optional and only used to reply to you. If you would rather not share an email address, leave it blank β€” the message still arrives. Please do not put sensitive personal information in the message box.

Analytics

Two analytics tools run on this site, both to answer basic questions like which pages get used.

Google Analytics 4 (property G-E1HDB65B3Q) records page views, a small number of events about whether the install prompt was shown or accepted and whether auto-backup was toggled, and whether you are using the site as an installed app or in a browser tab. It sets first-party cookies on this domain (_ga and _ga_E1HDB65B3Q) to tell repeat visits apart, and Google receives your IP address as part of the request, which it uses to derive an approximate location. Google Analytics does not receive your name, your email, or the contents of anything you track on the site. For more on how Google handles this data, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Cloudflare Web Analytics records page views and page-speed measurements. It sets no cookies and does not track you between sites.

Google Analytics Advertising Features. This site has Google signals enabled. When a visitor is signed in to a Google account that has Ads Personalization turned on, Google may associate that visit with their account, which allows this site to see aggregated age, gender, and interest categories, and to recognise the same person across devices. No advertising is shown on this site and no audience lists are exported to any advertising product.

To do this, Google's advertising cookies and identifiers (set on Google's own domains) are used together with this site's first-party analytics cookies described above, so that activity recorded by the first-party cookie can be matched to a signed-in Google profile.

You can turn this off for your Google account at Google Ads Settings, which stops Google associating your visits here with your account, or opt out of advertising cookies from many vendors at once at the NAI opt-out page. The browser add-on below also works.

How to opt out

  • Install Google's Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to stop Google Analytics on this and every other site.
  • Any content blocker or a browser with tracking protection (Firefox, Brave, Safari) will block both analytics tools. The site is built to work normally when they are blocked.
  • Clearing site data for this domain removes the analytics cookies along with everything else.

None of these break the site. Nothing on Re:Nookea is gated behind accepting analytics, which is why there is no cookie pop-up demanding you agree to something.

Hosting and other third parties

  • Cloudflare hosts the site, serves the images, and stores Cloud Sync backups. As the host it necessarily sees your IP address for every request. It is used briefly to rate-limit the sync API so nobody can hammer it, and request logs are kept for three days.
  • Ko-fi loads only if you click β€œSupport Re:Nookea”. Until you click it, nothing is requested from Ko-fi at all. If you do, their own privacy policy applies to that widget.

Children

Re:Nookea is a general-audience reference tool and is not directed to children. It has no accounts, no profiles, no messaging, and no user-to-user contact of any kind. If you believe a child has sent personal information through the suggestion box, contact the site owner and it will be deleted.

Your data, your call

Because there are no accounts, the site has no way to look you up β€” which also means most data requests answer themselves. To see your data, use the export button on the Cloud Sync panel. To delete it, clear your browser's site data for this domain; if you used Cloud Sync, overwrite the backup or let it expire. To have a suggestion-box message deleted, ask.

Changes

If what the site collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. Meaningful changes are also noted in What's New.
